Questions: Do you believe that the current Municipal Government Act meets the needs of The City of Calgary, and if so, why? If not, do you support a new legislative framework (e.g. City Charters) that recognizes the unique position of Alberta’s biggest cities?
A: The MGA does not presently meet Calgary’s needs. I support the inclusion of city charters into legislation to recognize the uniqueness of our major cities. Charters are a useful step toward establishing respectful consultative partnerships between the province and the largest municipalities that are specific to each city’s particular circumstances.
