Question: How would you work with The City of Calgary to develop a provincial transportation strategy to support public transit?
A: I would work directly with all municipalities to develop a province wide transportation policy that incorporates the movement of goods to market and people to work. The province must take the lead to ensure the policy is comprehensive, province-wide and incorporates all stakeholders. There are opportunities to utilize existing infrastructure to enhance public transit which have been already been proven in other jurisdictions (for example, the GO Train in Toronto), and there are opportunities to utilize technologies such as natural gas vehicles to address immediate transportation needs. Both existing infrastructure and new technology solutions address urban transportation needs and both require the support and participation of the province to ensure effectiveness in addressing transportation issues.
