Question: What is your plan for completing the South West Ring Road in Calgary?
A: The province will complete the south ring road in Calgary. Unfortunately the alignment for the ring road is still in the planning stages. When the original land transfer agreement was rejected by the Tsuu T’ina Nation in June of 2009, the original planning work and recommendations for the South West Ring Road was put back to square one. To determine another alignment, Alberta Transportation commissioned a second Functional Planning Study to identify new potential alignment options. In January 2011, five alignment options were presented, each with positive attributes as well as challenges, with the most significant challenge being the Glenmore Reservoir and natural area. It is important to let the engineers and planners complete their study, which includes significant public consultation, and present a recommended option that is best for the citizens of Calgary.
