01. Building Strong Cities

The McKinsey Global Institute report Urban World: Mapping the economic power of cities (March 2011), reaffirmed that the top 600 cities with 1/5th of the world’s population generate 60% of global GDP or $30 trillion. By 2025, The City of Calgary is predicted to have one of the highest GDP per capita, ranking eleventh in the top 25 expected hot spots. Further, The City of Calgary 2011 Census confirmed that Calgary’s population grew to 1,090,936. As Calgary continues to grow, it will need new legislative and fiscal frameworks to sustain its economic growth and continue to contribute to the overall provincial economy.

Question: What new fiscal and legislative measures do you envision to support The City of Calgary to maintain its high quality of life and compete globally?
