03. Community Supports

Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is a significant and successful funding partnership between municipalities and the Government of Alberta which was established to develop, support and fund preventive social services. The funding and support of FCSS plays a pivotal role in Calgary, contributing to the prevention of social problems such as youth crime, domestic violence and homelessness. The City of Calgary contributes beyond what is required in legislation to support FCSS Calgary. In Budget 2012, the Government of Alberta's province-wide commitment to this program increased only marginally to $76.1 million, from $75.6 million, where it had been stagnant for the past three years.

  • How will you ensure that future provincial funding levels are sufficient to meet the needs of the most vulnerable citizens across Alberta?
