Answer: Water management is a significant challenge in Alberta, especially in the South Saskatchewan region of which Calgary is a part. With never ending competing interests between industry, agriculture and human consumption this is a challenge that needs to be addressed without any further delay. While closing the river basins in the South Saskatchewan region is a step that prevents the situation from getting further down the road of no return, it is not a long term solution.
Alberta Liberals will protect Alberta’s drinking water by giving priority to basic human needs. We do not support a water market; water is a human right not a commodity. To find the right balance, we will have an open, transparent discussion with Albertans, municipalities, and industry about the future of water allocation in our province.
