What measures would you be willing to introduce to encourage the participation of the private sector in the development of more affordable housing in the large cities?
Answer: There are a number of factors related to the issue of affordable housing, only some of which are appropriate for a provincial government to act upon. We support the 10-year homelessness plan currently in place, and believe it works because municipalities have been given the funding necessary to be able to tackle this issue with maximum flexibility. Without a doubt, the tax structure discriminates against landlords, especially smaller ones, and we will work with the federal government to find meaningful reforms that will ease this barrier to investment. We are also open to considering other incentives and options for the private sector, so long as they are open to all investors, and not particular subsidies for hand-picked companies.
