Ric McIver's response to Question 4

Question 4: Do you support the current system of an integrated 911 service or Alberta Health Service’s plan to separate out EMS from the 911 service and have its own call centre and dispatch?

One of the most important things to Albertans in my opinion is that when they dial 911, the right help comes and it comes quickly.

I have heard from a number of municipalities, including Calgary, that there are concerns with the current AHS proposed transition to separately-operated ambulance call evaluation and dispatch services. I’m not satisfied that the province has done enough to address these concerns, and am therefore open to further discussion to hopefully come to a common understanding and way forward.

I am open to cities delivering this service. At the end of the day our decision should be based on providing the best patient care possible to the citizens of Alberta.
