10. Municipal Policing

Policing is the shared responsibility of all governments in Canada. With a budget of $400 million, policing is the one of the fastest growing and is the single largest expenditure area for The City of Calgary. The City of Calgary receives only about $19 million in funding for policing from the provincial government under the Municipal Policing Assistance Grant (MPAG). In the 2015-16 budget, the provincial government maintained its commitment to provide $16 per capita to The City of Calgary through the MPAG. The $16 per capita funding has remained the same since 2004, and has not grown to offset the increasing costs associated with policing and keeping our community safe.

Question:  What additional financial support will you provide to address the increased costs and responsibilities associated with policing in Calgary?
