Green Party of Alberta response to Question 12

Question:  What are your plans for cancer treatment in Calgary?

Answer:  If mere provincial promises created cancer treatment facilities, Alberta would have the best care in the world. It’s time to pony up and build the new Calgary Cancer Centre.

Some people and parties appear to believe that good facilities will be financed by manna from heaven. The Green Party, however, believes that most Albertans realize things have to be paid for, without perpetual commitment of unreliable oil and gas revenues. Therefore, we would provide excellent cancer and other health treatment without pretending that cutting administrative staff can finance it. Alberta could raise about $10 billion more tax dollars and still have the lowest taxes in Canada.

To be explicit: The Green Party of Alberta supports the construction of the new Calgary Cancer Centre as promised and supports increased levels of taxation to cover the costs of essential projects such as that Centre. See
